Words are difficult, aren't they. We overuse them, misuse them, and sometimes don't use them at all.
This, is a very big problem.
Now, much of this has to do with poor vocabulary or grammar. That you have to fix on your own. But the point I'm trying to get across here, has to do with motivational words. Sort of like compliments, but more. If you're like me, you have one or two compliments you get fairly regularly. And by this point, you know you should appreciate them, but it doesn't mean anything anymore. However, that does not make encouraging words as a whole mean any less.
A few months ago I was on the way to the airport with my aunt, and she was asking me about where I work. I was excited to explain it all to her in detail, and did so. She was very curious, so the whole thing probably took a solid hour. When I was finished, she told me some things I will never forget. It was that encouraging speech that solidified my intent to become a teacher. She doesn't know what effect those few sentences had on me, but I do believe it changed the future course of my life. It gave me the confidence to decide what I want to do in college and beyond.
Now, I told you this story as an example. For many, words don't come easy. And meaningful words are even harder. But I'd like to tell you that it's worth it. Don't just play with the little kid, but point out some of their best features. The friend who is struggling right now? Remind them of all the things you adore about them. I'd suggest you do this for everyone you can. Because it's a big deal to them. It truly is. Spending a little time. A few seconds, a few minutes, maybe an e-mail or a phone call, can actually change a life. You have the power to do that! Don't waste it.
I apologize for the short post, but this topic is pretty important to me, and I wanted to get it out there for you guys as soon as I could. Good luck!
