" Our generation was taught by people we've never met, in places that only exist in our minds. Books bring hope and wonder. They teach and they comfort. And I want to share that with the world." --- Vira Riddle
Why is it, exactly, that you write? Think about this for a moment. It can be kind of difficult to pinpoint sometimes. Maybe your reasons for writing and your reasons for writing this particular story are different.
"I started writing because I had an active imagination and I liked the idea of having them saved somewhere. Then, when I got older it was a way to stay connected to all the stories I used to act out as a kid with my friends. But now it's just my way to tell my stories and my experiences and my knowledge. It's a therapy, and on occasions, it still is an escape, though I try not to let it be."
--- Thane Attor
Writing is a form of expression. It takes hard work, practice, and a bit of a dream. But why do you write? Is there something you're trying to accomplish, or is it something you're trying to express? Is it a onetime or a pastime? Is it for yourself, or to share something with the world?
“Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia.”
― E.L. Doctorow
When things are difficult. When the pen simply won't move. When you feel like the story has died, and the paper hates you, think about this. Why do you write?
"You can't tell a story without putting a piece of yourself in it. It was a way to put the real me in a situation if never be able to be in. To be the hero of my own story when I didn't believe I was any sort of hero.
Now I write to inspire others to dream beyond themselves."
--- Vira Riddle
Don't give up. Don't you dare give up. Write yourself a little piece on why you're doing this. Then think on it for a while. Fall in love with it again.
Why do you write?
